A DOZEN ROSES

Nathan goes to a flower store to buy a dozen roses for his fiancé.

He doesn’t want to buy them. He thinks it’s a waste of money but his mother said he has to. She said, “trust me.”

At the flower store, Nathan’s determined to spend as little money as possible. So, instead of ordering a dozen roses, he only orders eleven. He assumes his fiancé won’t count them because it doesn’t matter how many there are. It’s the thought that counts, right?

Nathan leaves the flower store with a red bouquet and a bigger smile. He saved himself the cost of a rose.

That evening, Nathan hands his fiancé a bouquet of roses. She’s ear to ear smiles, makes happy noises and smells them… then counts them. There’s only eleven.

She glances uncomfortably at Nathan and counts them again. There’s still only eleven. Her countenance drops. She’s not getting that dozen roses feeling that she’s wanted her entire life.

She says, “Nathan, there’s only eleven roses here. They didn’t give you a dozen.”

Nathan pretends to count the roses with his eyes… looks at his fiancé with surprise and says, “you’re right… there’s only eleven! “I’ll have to call the store tomorrow and complain.”

Nathan gives her a consoling hug but smiles behind her back because even though she’s the type of woman that actually counts the roses, she’d never suspect he intentionally bought eleven just to save some money.
