JIMMY THE COW

Two cows stand in a grassy field. 

The cow named Nikki bobs her head down… then looks up. She’s chewing.  They're out to pasture, having lunch. 

Nikki says, “hey, there’s Jimmy.” Jimmy’s their cow friend.  

They were raised with Jimmy.      

The other cow turns its head and looks. Jimmy has a noose around his neck. A cowboy’s yanking the rope, pulling Jimmy forward, choking him. Another cowboy has Jimmy in a headlock, holding his head down, forcing him to submit. 

The cowboys drag Jimmy into a barn. 

The cows follow a smell to the other side of the barn. Someone’s lighting barbecue pits.  

People park their trucks… mingle with each other and drink beer. They're having some type of picnic.

Cowboys carry slabs of raw flesh out of the barn, slap ‘em on the grills, dodge hopping flames and baste them with barbecue sauce. 

Nicki stares at the meat being seared… says to herself out loud, “those cowboys just slaughtered Jimmy in that barn and cut up his body into food. All these people… they came to eat meat. They came to eat Jimmy.” 

The other cow asks, “Do you think they’ll come back one day and eat us?”    

Nikki bobs her head down… then looks up. She’s chewing.
